To assist in planning your trip, we have created a detailed guide that includes information on discounted flights and hotels, entry requirements, and popular tourist attractions. Visa Requirements

Citizens of countries who are members of the Commonwealth, African Union and La Francophonie, obtain a visa upon arrival and fees are waived for a visit of 30 days. More information on travel to Rwanda can be found here.

Requirements for Entry

(According to the U.S. Department of State via travel.state.gov)
  • US Passports must be valid for six months after the date of entry into Rwanda.
  • Travelers can obtain a Rwandan visa through the following procedures:
    • Obtain a 30-day tourist visa at the port of entry for $50 (single entry) or $70 (multiple entry). Credit cards are generally accepted at the Kigali International Airport but are not accepted at some land borders. The U.S. Embassy recommends that travelers arrive at the Kigali International Airport travel with sufficient cash in U.S. dollars to pay for the visa in case credit card transactions are not possible at the time of your arrival.     • Obtain a 30-day, 90-day, or 10-year tourist visa through the Rwandan Embassy in Washington, D.C. Additional information about this process can be found on the Rwandan Embassy’s website.

Plastic Ban

Plastic bags are not permitted in Rwanda as part of an environmental policy. Plastic bags must be discarded by passengers entering Kigali International Airport (KIA) or any border checkpoint. Travelers are given a cost-effective, ecologically friendly alternative.

Covid

Covid-19 testing is no longer a requirement prior to boarding the flight to Rwanda. However, regular Covid-19 testing is encouraged.

Yellow Fever

Required for travelers ≥1 year old arriving from countries with risk for YF virus transmission. Generally not recommended for travel to Rwanda.
